Glaziers, Window Fabricators and Fitters

Glaziers, window fabricators and fitters measure, cut, make and install glass and windows in buildings. They work on everything from home windows to office buildings and make sure glass installations are safe, properly fitted, and energy-efficient.

The Role & Expectations

As a glazier, window fabricator and fitter, you work with glass and windows in all sorts of buildings. You measure where the glass needs to go, cut it to the right size, and fit it carefully into place. You might install new windows in a house being built, replace broken glass in a shopfront, or fit glass panels and doors in an office building. You need to be precise because if it is not fitted properly, the building will not be weatherproof and secure.

Most days you will be on a building site or working in people's homes. You will use tools to measure and cut glass, fit frames and seals to make windows energy-efficient and safe, and make sure everything is secure. You might also need to go up ladders or scaffolding to work at height, so you need to be comfortable with that and follow strict safety rules to keep yourself and others safe.
