The Role & Expectations
As a Manager or Director in Energy Production, you run operations at a power station or renewable energy site. You manage teams of engineers and technicians, keep everything running smoothly, and make sure safety is the number one priority. You watch costs, meet targets, and follow hundreds of regulations about pollution and safety.
The energy industry is changing fast - coal and gas plants are being phased out and wind and solar are expanding. As a manager, you help your organisation move with those changes. You might be running a traditional power station that's scaling down, or building up a renewable energy project. You juggle money, people, technology and politics - and you need to understand that keeping the lights on matters to everyone.
Daily Responsibilities
- Oversee the strategic planning and execution of energy production projects, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals.
- Manage cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and operations staff, to optimize production efficiency.
- Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to maintain a secure workplace and comply with industry regulations.
- Engage with stakeholders, including government bodies and community representatives, to promote transparency and collaboration.
- Analyze energy market trends to inform decision-making and identify growth opportunities.
- Lead initiatives for research and development of innovative energy technologies.
- Prepare and present reports on production performance and strategic initiatives to senior management.
