The Role & Expectations
The work is planning and leading classes, demonstrating exercises, correcting form, adapting moves for different abilities and keeping everyone safe. Clear instruction, a good eye for movement and a patient, encouraging manner matter, since you work with people of all ages and fitness levels, including those recovering from injury.
Many instructors are self-employed or teach sessions across studios, gyms and community halls, often mornings, evenings and weekends to suit clients, with income built up from multiple classes. It is active work, and a steady group of regular students takes time to build.
You need a recognised Pilates instructor qualification, gained through a specialist course, plus first aid and insurance. An enhanced DBS check may be needed for some settings, and ongoing training keeps your teaching safe and up to date.
