Vehicle Damage Assessor

Vehicle damage assessors look at cars that have been in accidents or damaged and work out what repairs are needed and how much they will cost. They examine the damage carefully, write reports for insurance companies and repair shops, and help people understand what needs fixing.

The Role & Expectations

As a vehicle damage assessor, you inspect cars that have been in accidents or damaged and work out what repairs they need. You examine every part - the bodywork, mechanical components, and interior - to spot damage that might not be obvious at first. You then write a detailed report that explains what is broken, what it will cost to fix, and whether the car is safe to drive.

Your day involves visiting garages, accident scenes, and meeting with repair shop managers and insurance adjusters. You explain your findings to people who may not know much about cars, so you need to communicate clearly and calmly. You also keep up with new vehicle types and repair methods, because cars are constantly changing. Your reports help insurance companies decide how much to pay out, and help repair shops plan their work.
