The Role & Expectations
As a glass maker, decorator and finisher, you shape, colour and finish glass to make it into something beautiful. You might work alone on a delicate piece or help with bigger projects like windows for buildings. You'll use furnaces, tools and your hands to create glass that people will use and enjoy.
Your day is a mix of technical skill and creativity. You need to be careful with details and have a good eye, but the best part is seeing a plain piece of glass turn into something finished that you've made yourself. You'll often work with other glass makers and designers to bring ideas to life.
Daily Responsibilities
- Operate machinery to shape and mold glass into desired forms.
- Apply decorative techniques such as engraving, painting, or etching on glass surfaces.
- Inspect finished products for quality and precision, ensuring they meet industry standards.
- Collaborate with designers to develop new glass designs and prototypes.
- Maintain equipment and tools, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
- Manage the mixing of raw materials to create specific glass compositions.
- Adhere to safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
