Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Librarian
As a Junior Librarian, you will assist in the daily operations of the library, helping patrons with inquiries and managing collections under the supervision of senior staff.
Mid-Level Librarian
In this role, you will take on more responsibilities, including developing library programmes, managing specific collections, and leading a team of junior staff.
Senior Librarian
As a Senior Librarian, you will oversee library operations, develop strategic initiatives, and represent the library in community engagements and partnerships.
