Global Career Guide (EN)From Retail & Sales

Retail and Wholesale Manager

Retail and wholesale managers make sure shops and warehouses run smoothly. They plan what to sell, manage staff, look after money and stock, and work out how to sell more and keep customers happy.

The Role & Expectations

As a manager or director in retail and wholesale, you're responsible for making sure your shop or warehouse works well and makes money. You plan the sales strategy—which products to push, what prices to charge, when to put things on sale—and you lead a team to make it happen. You solve problems quickly, like when stock runs out or when staff need support.

You watch the money closely: you set budgets, check that you're making a profit, and spot chances to save money or make more. You also keep an eye on what customers want and what your rivals are doing, so you can stay ahead. A big part of your job is leading your team, giving them training, and making sure they give customers good service.
