Career Progression Path
Is this the only route?
This is the standard academic trajectory, but modern careers are highly flexible. You can often skip stages by entering the industry with an advanced qualification (like a Master's or PhD), or pivot sideways from a related discipline.
University Degree
Usually 3 to 4 years of full-time academic study, explicitly preparing you for the theoretical realities of the industry.
Junior Metal Worker
At the entry level, you will assist in basic assembly and maintenance tasks, gaining hands-on experience and learning from more experienced fitters.
Mid-Level Fitter
In this role, you will take on more complex tasks, including troubleshooting and independent maintenance of machinery, while mentoring junior staff.
Senior Metal Working Technician
As a senior technician, you will lead projects, oversee teams, and implement advanced manufacturing techniques, playing a key role in strategic decision-making.
