The Role & Expectations
As a publican or manager, you run a pub, bar or similar venue. You are the person in charge, making sure the place is clean, welcoming and safe. You hire and train staff, handle the money and stock, and make sure everyone - your team and your customers - has a good experience. You need to be a good leader who makes people want to do good work.
On a typical day, you might interview new staff, check that the kitchen and bar are stocked properly, deal with customer complaints, check that the place meets health and safety rules, and plan events or promotions to bring people in. You keep an eye on money coming in and going out, and you order supplies from companies that deliver them. The job is fast-paced and you need to stay calm when things get busy, especially during evenings and weekends.
