The Role & Expectations
As a slaughterer, you work in a meat processing plant where animals are prepared and processed for food. The work is fast-paced, cold and physically demanding, and it requires precision and concentration.
Your day involves preparing animals, performing the slaughter in a way that causes as little stress and harm as possible, and checking the meat afterwards to make sure it is safe and healthy to eat. You'll wear protective clothing and follow strict rules about cleanliness and safety. Many slaughterers say the hardest part is the speed - you have to work quickly while still doing things carefully and humanely. This job is important, but it is not for everyone because of what it involves. If you go into this work, you will need to be calm, strong and respectful toward animals.
Daily Responsibilities
- Prepare animals for slaughter by ensuring they are handled humanely and efficiently.
- Perform slaughtering procedures in compliance with health and safety regulations.
